பகவான் ஆதி சங்கரர் அருளிய பவானி அஷ்டகம் எனும் இந்த அழகிய எட்டு ஸ்லோகங்கள், காசியில் அன்னை பவானியை வேண்டிப் பாடியதாக வரலாறு. அவ்வரிய இனிய ஸ்லோகங்களின் தமிழாக்கம்.
காசி எனும் சொல்லுக்கு ஒளி மிக்கது எனப்பொருள். ‘காச: ப்ரகாச: அஸ்ய இதி காசி:’- அதாவது ஒளிர்ந்து ஒளி தருவது காசி என்பது ஆகும்.
